Beginner Sewing Machine

My husband asked for a sewing machine for Christmas and he has never sewn before. Any recommendations for a beginner sewing machine that is easy to use?

So I kind of want one of Build-a-Bear's Ninja Turtles plushies. But one thing that I'm having a hard time getting over is the fact that the shells are removable. It makes sense to them, so you can put clothes on the Turtles, but seriously, everyone knows turtles' shells are not removable. And I started wondering if I could sew the shell on.

Has anyone attempted this with a Build-a-Bear Ninja Turtle plushie? (Or any of their past turtles, which also had removable shells?) I'm wondering if the idea is conceivable to execute or not. I think I should be able to do it, after studying a Raph plush in-store, but I'd love to hear from someone who actually did it!

Birthdays, yay!

Woof! August seems to be the month of birthdays! In my family alone, there are six alone with mine included. Good thing we live far away from each other or we'd drown in cake!

When I asked my sister what she wanted for her birthday, she said "a Gryffindor scarf", so I went wool shopping. Then, I found this really sweet pattern for a bag, and decided to make that instead. Luckily, I was able to finish it today (on her birthday, but luckily before the end of the day!) and presented it to her.

Avast ye! Pictures below, arr!Collapse )

I'll put the pattern here for anyone who's interested. They don't just give you the Gryffindor pattern, but all the houses, and as long as you're creative enough and have the same number of stitches, you could make your own house shield. It's a really simple pattern for anyone who's even remotely interested! I definitely recommend it. =)

Hope all your projects are going well!

Dragonfly Tablet Sleeve

I made this yesterday. Click to embiggen.

I made this boxed bag to hold some of my knitting tools, and a matching felt needle holder to keep track of my darning needles which are forever impossible to find.

I used a tutorial to make the boxed bag, there are several great ones online.

My first quilts

These three quilts were made as presents for three the most important guys in my life.

I made this as a Christmas gift for my mum.   I started working on it a few month's ago.  The bay horse, Charlie Brown, passed away 3 years ago.  Sadly, just a week ago, Hamish (the grey) also passed on.  It was a rather emotional present exchange but she is really happy with it.
