abby
abby is not an unhappy girl, not really. she is just very discontent. you see, what abby really wants to do is ride horses bareback in the circus. she wants pretty skirts in tulle and chalk powder on her feet. she wants the tents and the smell of cotton candy in her hair. and while this is what abby really wants to do, what she actually does is help on her father's cherry farm. day in and day out, biting her lips permanently stained from the juice, she waits and watches - just hoping for the bright coloured trailers to appear in the dust on the horizon.
(ingrediants: sculpey, paint, ribbon, hair, wire, angst)

and by the way, your icon is absolutely mesmerizing.
i'd seen similiarly simple-jointed dolls before by other far far more talented-than-i dollmakers. and i thought that i'd like to try to make my own. the first few were rather dreadful.
as for the hair, it isn't terribly tricky. just a bit tedious. i take little sections and tie a knot in the middle. repeat. repeat. repeat. (lots of repeating) and glue the knot down the center of the head. i like that it gives a bit of a 'center-part' look.
of course i'm sure there is a better way to do the hair than i do, but i've not found one.
and the books! eesh i think i read every book even remotely about horses my little library could offer. i was a huge fan of the black stallion series.
where you also the sort of girl who never asked for a pony? i was always quite adament that i wanted a horse NOT a pony. haha.
and yes, ponies were cute, but unacceptable. I wanted a horse - no substitutes!
Whenever you rode on carousels, did you always have to ride on one of the actual horses, as opposed to the random lions, gazelles, zebras, etc?
