Hola peoples! New pretty things to see, clicky clicky ^^

Part of mam's birthday present was this little gem, which I think worked out pretty well:~

A few other designs I used:~

An update on my beach mission thingy for those who're interested. I'm still collecting what'll go inside.

Et pour la fin...

Hope you liked :D

I love the record bowls
and everyone says how easy they are
but I was wondering if there was a way to make them
...
spiky like

like, if I had a star bowl to drape the heated record over...instead of the loopy wavy edges, could I get straighter pointier ones?

If you had a star bowl, it would probably work, so long as you pressed the record into the corners once you took it out. They're manouverable for about two minutes, if you're lucky, but you can always put them back in again. If you manage it, please take a picture or two, I'd love to see!

your record bowls look nice. my mom and my former high school have sort-of commissioned me to make these in bulk for centerpieces for a chorus banquet, and to hold gifts for the parting seniors. it's not a problem for standard 33 1/3 rpms, but 45s have such large openings. your idea for sealing the bottoms is great, i may have to borrow it if you don't mind, but instead of art, use something chorus related at the bottom. nice work.

great job on the bowls! I like the idea of artwork inside. Love the popcorn kernels too! all those pretty insides would make me want to not cover it up with sweets!
defianteyes 26th-Apr-2006 04:11 pm (UTC)
Aw, thank you! I stick my favourite prints to everything ^^

The popcorn kernel one is for my soon-to-be roomie Lorraine: whenever we crash at her place, she'll make loads of microwave popcorn, she's just a little obsessed!

Thanks ^^ I figured that since Ireland has been getting stormy nights nonstop for ages, this would be my only way to get a glimpse at any stars!

i love the record bowls! i did one and it came out ok but how do you get it all wavey at the top?
defianteyes 27th-Apr-2006 08:27 am (UTC)
I melted the first one I did over the base of an upside down bowl and it came out fairly wonky, so the little sister took that attempt and I tried again. The second time, I took the record while it was still soft and pushed the centre of right down to the bottom of the mixing bowl. The waves formed themselves as I did. Depending on the bowl you use, the waves come out bigger (like the Van Gogh, which was made with a deep bowl) or smaller (like the Thayer, which was made with a shallow pyrex dish). It's pure luck half the time, so I wish you lots of it!

in a magazine I was reading, the "for those who have everything" was a small record bowl for 26$. I commend you for being so smart :)
defianteyes 27th-Apr-2006 08:29 am (UTC)
26$?! And here I am giving them to my boyfriend for free... he doesn't know how lucky he is! *grins*
