ONESIES

My boyfriend's cousin is having a baby. Actually his wife is. Har har. I'd like to do some personalized onesies for the baby but have a few questions:

1. What did you use? Paint? felt? ...other material? I want to do just a random design on them just like the person who did one with a turtle...

Yes. That's all I have. Thanks for any help!

I would use the soft fabric paint. Onesie's are very stretchy, are supposed to be, so you want something that will stretch with the fabric. You also want something soft on the baby.

I wouldn't do any type of applique at all, unless you were embroidering around it, because you don't want anything that is glued/tacked/ironed on to come off and the baby choke on it.

One other good option might be to try the silk screening method that is popular here or use rubber stamps or stencils with fabric paint. Oh, and you would probably also do a design on a computer and print it out on the transfer paper and iron it on that way.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out!

Try embroidery. If you use the nice soft floss and hide the knots well away from the skin you can get a really cool effect. I'm sure google has a great selection of "Basic Embroidery" stitch tutorials as well.

There are fabric markers that are good for doing that. I gave a shower for my boss and what we did was for all the girls to decorate a onesie for the mommy. And I found some glitter marker in the kids sections for fabric as well. Just need to read the labels carefully.

Um...this is me being a little doi but what's a onesies? heh. Yeah I really don't know what it is. Maybe there's a different name that I know it by.

unrelated side note: when you said "should I use paint?" I pictured you painting a onesie on the baby.

I stenciled those onesies for my cousin's daughter. I used freezer paper and acrylic paint & fabric medium - it was soooo easy. I plan on making a crapload for my sister's baby this spring.

Oh that's wicked, thanks so much man. That was one of them that I was looking for but had no idea what month to even start looking at.
