Finally finished something for myself! I swear, as soon as people learn you can knit, everybody wants something and the worst part is, they just don't GET how much time/effort/planning it takes to do!
Enough pitty, more pretty! I made this scarf out of something called 'Bliss' and let me tell you, the name? More than accurate. It's like a little fluffy kitten; so soft! I got it on sale at Wall-Mart for like two bucks a skein, buying two skeins as I KNEW this had to be a scarf, but ended up only having to use one. And this is a six foot long scarf here people, with enough left over for a good amount of fringe! I used my giant 15 needles to give it a sort of lacey look without actually having to do any, you know, work. AND! If that wasn't enough! I hand beaded in some clear, lightweight glass beads onto it. You can only make out a few of them in the picture, but trust me, they're there and there are a LOT! At least two every row, all random and pretty like.
This is my 'Summer Glau' scarf; it is white, airy, sparkly and is a loose lace stitch and has eleven stitches. If you get the symbolism in that... well, you're my hero.

you can kiiiiind of see the beads? right? please?

and of course, the 'artsy fartsy' shot of me wearing the scarf. don't ask why
there are silk leaves by my head; I was working on a costume while taking these

Thank you!
it makes me want to learn how to knit.
LEARN! I mean, unless the reason you're not is because of time, learnlearnlearn! I'll even give you some do's and don't's for first projects. I'm so glad I finally learned; the most relaxing thing in the world.
Seriously, though, that is one glamorous scarf. Turned out gorgeous. : )
Thank you; it turned out much prettier than I thought I would. A couple of rows in I was really worried it would look like I was wear stretched out cotton balls. *blush* Glam is a much better look, I'm thinking.
Oh, and your hair color? AMAZING. You even have the skin to go with it. You remind me soooo much of Molly Ringwald. :)
*blush!* Thank you! It's one of the new Feria's... Spicy Red? I forget, shame on me. I do know it's one of the new ones that's not listed on the Feria site, though!
hah! I get the Molly Ringwald thing occasionally, yes. Good thing I ADORE her. :D
You got it at walmart? Is bliss the name? Did it come in other colors?
ahaha...sorry for the questions...I have a scarf pattern I would love to try with yarn like that.
Yep, got it at Walmart. It's called Bliss and came in... a sort of a light blue/purple for sure (I got some of that for my mom, it's her favourite colour) and I THINK pink, but I'm not sure. I was really just excited to find it in white as I'd been looking for exactly that kind of yarn for ages. Sorry I can't be more help!
(Questions always welcome! ;) )
(As seen here, hee!)
"...So we'll integrate non-progressional evolution theory with God's creation of Eden. Eleven inherent metaphoric parallels already there. Eleven. Important number, prime number. One goes into the house of eleven eleven times but always comes out one... Noah's Ark is a problem. We'll have to call it early quantum state phenomenon. Only way to fit five thousand species of mammal on the same boat."
"Give me that."
And YESYES! To the second!
The only parts missed were she played a ballerina on 'Angel'; hence light, white, sparkly. I decided her role on CSI and the rest didn't count, hee.
But otherwise YOUWINYOUWINYOUWIIIIIIN! And are now my favourite-ist person ever. Three days! THREEDAYS!
(I love your icon, by the way; red hair is a love of mine obviously, but I also love that kind of golden light.)
Unless you're going for the Tin Man's wife look, of course. ;)
As for the size, I got them from Michael's, who is notorious for telling jack shit about their products. They're by Blue Moon, and with a little research, I THINK (don't quote me on this) they're the pony beads.
and another compliment about your hair colour, it looks beautiful! I can never get my hair that red because my hair is quite dark brown to begin with. what's your natural hair colour/the colour you dyed over?
Aw, thank you! My hair is a really boring dishwater blonde shade naturally, so it dyes right over like a dream. I have to admit, though, if I ever went another colour, I would so be going a dark brown. Have you ever thought about crazy highlights? There's something I've always wanted to try; maybe I could live through you...
And I know how it goes with everyone wanting something. I've got fifteen projects to finish before Christmas because of my friends and their demands. SOOO BUSY.
And my fingers hurt like whoa.
Ugh! I mean, I love my friends, and I love when they love their gifts, but Christmas? KILLS ME. I think the worst part is, I once made this absolutely BEAUTIFUL really thick, chunky scarf for a friend of mine who was going away to university... it was a handmade wool, in blues and greys and I must have knit and reknit that thing about 17 times so it would be perfect, and he went straight for the shot glasses that I had included on a whim, thinking the scarf was the wrapping.
THAT'S the sort of thing that kills me. *shakes fist*
What kind of projects are you doing for friends this year?
I like your hair color as well. I'm also a red head thanks to Feria.
and beautiful scarf. i like the beading.
can't wait til friday!
