Scarfy fun!

8:58 am - 09/27/2005
Finally finished something for myself! I swear, as soon as people learn you can knit, everybody wants something and the worst part is, they just don't GET how much time/effort/planning it takes to do!

Enough pitty, more pretty! I made this scarf out of something called 'Bliss' and let me tell you, the name? More than accurate. It's like a little fluffy kitten; so soft! I got it on sale at Wall-Mart for like two bucks a skein, buying two skeins as I KNEW this had to be a scarf, but ended up only having to use one. And this is a six foot long scarf here people, with enough left over for a good amount of fringe! I used my giant 15 needles to give it a sort of lacey look without actually having to do any, you know, work. AND! If that wasn't enough! I hand beaded in some clear, lightweight glass beads onto it. You can only make out a few of them in the picture, but trust me, they're there and there are a LOT! At least two every row, all random and pretty like.

This is my 'Summer Glau' scarf; it is white, airy, sparkly and is a loose lace stitch and has eleven stitches. If you get the symbolism in that... well, you're my hero.

you can kiiiiind of see the beads? right? please?

and of course, the 'artsy fartsy' shot of me wearing the scarf. don't ask why
there are silk leaves by my head; I was working on a costume while taking these

super cute scarf!
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 02:44 pm (UTC)
Thank you! And it's white, so it goes with EVERYTHING!
dlowewin 27th-Sep-2005 02:31 pm (UTC)
nice scarf, love your hair color
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 02:44 pm (UTC)
It's one of the new Feria reds. And to think I was thinking of going brunette...

Thank you!
revolvingsun 27th-Sep-2005 02:31 pm (UTC)
gorgeous.
it makes me want to learn how to knit.
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 02:46 pm (UTC)
Aww... thank you.

LEARN! I mean, unless the reason you're not is because of time, learnlearnlearn! I'll even give you some do's and don't's for first projects. I'm so glad I finally learned; the most relaxing thing in the world.
songtoisis 27th-Sep-2005 02:33 pm (UTC)
Since you have that extra skein...I'm sure you won't mind whipping another scarf up for me. How about tomorrow? : D

Seriously, though, that is one glamorous scarf. Turned out gorgeous. : )
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 02:47 pm (UTC)
hee. But would you appreciate it? ;)

Thank you; it turned out much prettier than I thought I would. A couple of rows in I was really worried it would look like I was wear stretched out cotton balls. *blush* Glam is a much better look, I'm thinking.
pzelda 27th-Sep-2005 02:34 pm (UTC)
PRETTIFUL! :D Yup, I can see the beads. Love love love it! I want one of my first knitting projects to be a scarf. :)

Oh, and your hair color? AMAZING. You even have the skin to go with it. You remind me soooo much of Molly Ringwald. :)
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 03:03 pm (UTC)
Oh, whew! I was so worried that I was the only one would could see them because I KNEW they were there. And scarves are always the perfect first project; really fast (if you pick the right stitch/yarn) and satisfying. Not to mention, really easy to correct mistakes on! ;)

*blush!* Thank you! It's one of the new Feria's... Spicy Red? I forget, shame on me. I do know it's one of the new ones that's not listed on the Feria site, though!

hah! I get the Molly Ringwald thing occasionally, yes. Good thing I ADORE her. :D
technotaco 27th-Sep-2005 02:54 pm (UTC)
that's gorgeous!
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 03:04 pm (UTC)
Thanks so much!
mermaid_rina 27th-Sep-2005 03:14 pm (UTC)
that scarf is beautiful...it looks very similar to the one jennymade wants to make (the one from the Delia's catalog)
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 03:19 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much! And... now that my brain has finally cleared from 'Must. Finish. Scarf.' I see that you're totally right... I'll head over there now, see if if her question has already been answered.
bertha79 27th-Sep-2005 03:20 pm (UTC)
It's BEAUTIFUL! (and your hair is so awesome...)
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 03:25 pm (UTC)
*blushes* Thank you! I'm so proud of it! (eee! thanks again... I've always wanted to be a redhead; am glad other people approve of the decision too!)
triedsohard 27th-Sep-2005 03:22 pm (UTC)
I love that yarn!
You got it at walmart? Is bliss the name? Did it come in other colors?
ahaha...sorry for the questions...I have a scarf pattern I would love to try with yarn like that.
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 03:28 pm (UTC)
ME TOO! XD!

Yep, got it at Walmart. It's called Bliss and came in... a sort of a light blue/purple for sure (I got some of that for my mom, it's her favourite colour) and I THINK pink, but I'm not sure. I was really just excited to find it in white as I'd been looking for exactly that kind of yarn for ages. Sorry I can't be more help!

(Questions always welcome! ;) )
borderbasher 27th-Sep-2005 03:26 pm (UTC)
i love the scarf! (i can see the beads and they are lovely on the scarf) i'd have to try that stitch some time
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 03:30 pm (UTC)
Glee! Thanks! (Whew!) It's actually just the garter stitch on 15 needles; the EASIEST thing in the world with the best results.

(As seen here, hee!)

Does River wear a scarf at all during the series? No, she doesn't, does she... She should! I mean- I guess that her floppy pink sweater she has on in 'Safe' is pretty scarfy... she seems like a scarf sort of person. And space is cold!

"...So we'll integrate non-progressional evolution theory with God's creation of Eden. Eleven inherent metaphoric parallels already there. Eleven. Important number, prime number. One goes into the house of eleven eleven times but always comes out one... Noah's Ark is a problem. We'll have to call it early quantum state phenomenon. Only way to fit five thousand species of mammal on the same boat."
"Give me that."
ferox Re: Imminent fandom impending:27th-Sep-2005 04:34 pm (UTC)
Yes to the first part (the sweater is a loose knit long vest).

And YESYES! To the second!

The only parts missed were she played a ballerina on 'Angel'; hence light, white, sparkly. I decided her role on CSI and the rest didn't count, hee.

But otherwise YOUWINYOUWINYOUWIIIIIIN! And are now my favourite-ist person ever. Three days! THREEDAYS!
jupitersiren 27th-Sep-2005 04:42 pm (UTC)
Beautiful scarf and you are a beautiful girl as well. I adore your hair color!
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 04:51 pm (UTC)
Thank you! I'm really proud of it. *blush* And... thanks.

(I love your icon, by the way; red hair is a love of mine obviously, but I also love that kind of golden light.)
mellybrelly 27th-Sep-2005 05:17 pm (UTC)
I swear to you I just finished the same scarf. Same yarn, same colour, minus the beads, even 11 stitches!
mellybrelly 27th-Sep-2005 05:18 pm (UTC)
oh no, nevermind! Mine is pale pink and I read that yours is white :)
ianna_loncar 27th-Sep-2005 06:14 pm (UTC)
Pretty lipstick!! what is it?
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 06:56 pm (UTC)
Uhh... *had to run upstairs and check* L'Oreal Glam Shine in Drama Queen. You have to be veeeeery careful with it though; it goes on quite POW if you're not. I personally put on a dark strawberry stain first and then this on top, just a little bit at a time.

Unless you're going for the Tin Man's wife look, of course. ;)
redglasscurls 27th-Sep-2005 07:05 pm (UTC)
What size beads are those? It seems like it would be difficult to find glass beads large enough to fit on the yarn without weighing it down a lot...
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 07:34 pm (UTC)
I was worried about that too; you would not believe how long I sat in the store (yes, sat) weighing beads in my hands and trying to decide if they were too heavy or not.

As for the size, I got them from Michael's, who is notorious for telling jack shit about their products. They're by Blue Moon, and with a little research, I THINK (don't quote me on this) they're the pony beads.
just_does_it 27th-Sep-2005 07:17 pm (UTC)
cute scarf.. it DOES look cuddly! :)
and another compliment about your hair colour, it looks beautiful! I can never get my hair that red because my hair is quite dark brown to begin with. what's your natural hair colour/the colour you dyed over?
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 07:37 pm (UTC)
I want to wear it all the time! Luckily, it's white, so it goes with practically everything!

Aw, thank you! My hair is a really boring dishwater blonde shade naturally, so it dyes right over like a dream. I have to admit, though, if I ever went another colour, I would so be going a dark brown. Have you ever thought about crazy highlights? There's something I've always wanted to try; maybe I could live through you...
spoonsharpwit 27th-Sep-2005 07:22 pm (UTC)
Whoa. Looks really nice!

And I know how it goes with everyone wanting something. I've got fifteen projects to finish before Christmas because of my friends and their demands. SOOO BUSY.
And my fingers hurt like whoa.
ferox 27th-Sep-2005 07:40 pm (UTC)
Thanks!

Ugh! I mean, I love my friends, and I love when they love their gifts, but Christmas? KILLS ME. I think the worst part is, I once made this absolutely BEAUTIFUL really thick, chunky scarf for a friend of mine who was going away to university... it was a handmade wool, in blues and greys and I must have knit and reknit that thing about 17 times so it would be perfect, and he went straight for the shot glasses that I had included on a whim, thinking the scarf was the wrapping.

THAT'S the sort of thing that kills me. *shakes fist*

What kind of projects are you doing for friends this year?
really_living 27th-Sep-2005 10:40 pm (UTC)
Awesome! And I can definitely see the beads! I've just learned knitting basics and I can do scarves (which is basically all I can do at the moment, heh), AND I'm going to Walmart this weekend. Yay!
shattrxrxdtruth 28th-Sep-2005 02:07 am (UTC)
Man, I love your hair color.
ally_187 28th-Sep-2005 05:12 am (UTC)
That is beautiful. I have been making so many scarves lately but none for my self. That looks like the perfect yarn for me to use for myself.

I like your hair color as well. I'm also a red head thanks to Feria.
thedewmonster gah!28th-Sep-2005 05:13 am (UTC)
