A bit of history behind my name for my website: Puchi (or Pucchi…it is seen spelt both ways) is Japanese for “Petite” and Maiko means “Dancing Girl” - but a maiko is also an apprentice geisha. So my name literally translates to Petite Dancing Girl. I chose it because I wanted a name for my website that represented the fact that I make items that are small, cute and inspired by the beauty of the items geisha and maiko use on a daily basis and that they are made of kimono fabrics.

Anyhow – so that is why I named these pouches Puchi Pouches! Or, Petite Pouches, if you will.

They are all made out of kimono fabric – all of them, except the one with the cute chrysanthemum are made of silks and silk blends – the red chrysanthemum is vintage cottons. I am absolutely in love with them – as they are small enough to fit in my bag – but, big enough to hold a decent amount (credit cards, paper money, make-up, girly “things”, business cards, etc) and they add just the right touch of “Wow, that is lush!” to my bag contents ;P

You can see how big they are in comparision to my business cards:

I also finished off a woven strip pouch I’ve had sitting around for a while – I absolutely love how it turned out:

Yay for productivity!

where do you get your fabric?
beautiful, by the way.
alustrialcrafts 24th-May-2005 01:23 am (UTC)
Hi There - I get my fabric mostly direct from Japan. I do occationally purchase fabric from ebay. I also have bags of surplus fabric on my site..sometimes, I just get way to much of one particular type of fabric :]

Those are just great! I really like the woven strip pouch too. I have been trying to lay out a similar design mentally for a large bag. Very nice stuff!
