I fail!

Today I tried to make my first sewing purse (i've made a purse out of a book before). Sadly enough, I failed miserbly. Perhaps because I jumped into a too complicated purse. I think I was over-confident.
However, I will not be defeated!
How do you sew lining into purses?
My outside is cordurory and the inside was a basic fabric. I feel dumb asking, but I'm so confused. Like when I see your guy's pictures of purses, it looks like the lining is all one piece, but the purse outside is pieces sewn together. Can anyone explain how this is done?
I hope this isn't a stupid question.

The basic thing that most people do I believe is to sew the outer bag, and then make an identical bag with your lining fabric. Drop your lining bag into your outer bag with the wrong sides facing together, fold over the edges of both the outer bag and the lining, press the edges together, and sew...
