Ship me out

Does anyone know the guide lines you have to follow for sending out decorated packages?..I mean, how much of the box/envelop can you decorate before they Send it back to you. I saw a webpage about people who do art on envelops and stuff like that, but I wasn't sure if they could actually send them out.

Does it matter as long as you can read the address clearly? Thanks if anyone can help.

as long as they can read the to and from addresses you should be okay.

I am a consumate envelope decorator -- drawings, stickers, whatever. I've never had trouble with my mailings arriving as they should, on time.

I try to be kind to the mail carriers, though, and make sure that the address and return address are easily ledgible. I try not to get too carried away with those.

But around them? Go to town!

I bought a purse from someone once, and they sent it (its a medium sized purse, not huge) in a brown envelope that was covered with duct-tape, and then they glued white paper on it to write the to and from addresses. It also had glitter glue and stickers all over it.

And I got it.

No advice really, but I thought I'd share.

I used to decorate envelopes all the time. You just have to be able to clearly read the addresses
have fun!

there's a website dedicated to sending weird stuff through the mail, and whether or not it gets delivered. ;)

they will send almost anything if the address is readable
however, i once made an envelope out of part of a froot loops box and did get 1 comment from the postal worker that the USPS was not supposed to send envelopes that had commercial products on them because it was considered advertising? something like that. but he did let me send it anyway... so i dont know

This is a ridiculous comment due to its nebulous nature, but:

There is a book about what this dude could get through the mail.

If I'm not mistaken, he managed a clear plastic glove, full of candy, with a firmly attached tag on a string.

If anyone comes back here to read this.....

I can't use cut outs that advertise things?

and Can I make my own post cards if its the standard size?

As for postcards, yeah.

I've even written on the back of a photo and mailed it.

you can decorate at will and mail nearly anything. my boyfriend lives in a different city so i mail him goodies during the week. a couple weeks ago i mailed an empty hagen daaz container (pecan swirl) filled with candy and toys. i just taped the lid shut, put his address on the top and bottom and took it to the p.o. the postal guy was kind of snotty but i just smiled politely to his face and rolled my eyes and snickered at him in the car.
