eeek. today at joann's i bought two lemon placemats for 44 cents. i love them dearly. they are thick bendy plastic...

what can i do with them, crafty senoritas?
they are too think to be sewn through...but i guess i could poke holes or something if the idea has to do with sewing.
thanks so much.

love and lemons,
jamie

i was thinking you could cut them out and perhaps put holes through the tops, and put jump rings through the holes to hang from wires. then paint some dowel rods yellow and orange, and hang them in your window as mobiles?

or you could put them in one of those curtains made of mesh material with pockets?

ohoh how about line them with some kinda paper(glued to the inside) and make some cute kitchen light sconces(sp) you could roll them and used a brad setter to hold them that way and you could either mount them on wall light units OR do the hanging lamp business but with no lamp bodies just those and wires to the ceiling... I dont know.. Im cheesy sometimes

I was thinking bag :) but I think about making everything into bags.

If you can't sew them you can always use glue.

Or make a clock out of one.

i really like that idea :D
but to stick them together, maybe poke holes in the and lace in some heavy thick yarn or rope?
and cut in handles or maybe attach some with holes at the top and use some metal rings connected to handles? ^^; (sorry if that's hard to understand)

woo. i work at joann's. i love those placemats.

off the top of my head i'd say buy some clear plastic like the mats are made of, or maybe yellow, perhaps from other placemats or by-the-yard, cut two pieces the length of the sides and one the length of the bottom, punch some holes and lace up. add some handles and you have yourself a beach/pool tote for a bottle of water/sunscreen/lunch/whatever.

sorry if you didn't understand that at all, it's late and i like run on sentences. i can explain better tomorrow if you're interested and don't understand my babble.

oh! after i posted i decided that since the corners are rounded you wouldn't need to cut 3 pieces and it would work bettr if you just had one long strip that's side + side + bottom.

bleh, babble, sorry again.

If you're planning on making these into a bag, i would suggest using grommets up the sides then lacing it up.

You could cut them out and put some sort of foam or cork on the bottom and use them as coasters.

Try to find a matching yellow placemat, just plain yellow, and make that out of a bag...the yellow backing with the see-through lemony one on top.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I bought tons of those placemats more than a year ago thinking they would make a cute bag but I just couldn't figure out a way to make them sturdy! Yay! Thanks for the link!

i see a skirt that is one flap in the front and one in the back witha gap between the two with shorts worn underneath, held together by grommets and lace or nuts on a vinyl belt :)

then again i am pretty weird...
