I want to make something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2944913334&category=15201

I'm great at sewing things like this, so I don't need a pattern. What I do need help on is what material to make it out of so i don't scratch up my filters.

Are there any photographers (or anyone really) who can give me some advice?

EDIT: If making one of these pouches isn't such a good idea, does anyone have any advice on how to make a hard case for the filters?

something microfiber I would think...

if you wanted them to be *really* safe you could take a bunch of those lens cleaner cloths (if you could get them for a reasonable price. I always see them for like $10 for a little square. which is WAY too much...) you could have each one have its own little pouch out of that.

yeah those clothes are so expensive. i was considering getting some and just wrapping each lense individually and then making a bag to put them all in but that would cost a lot.

I was going to say lense cloths, but you could also try felt, but make sure that it is made from wool, not synthetic fibres.

store bought craft felt is made from synthetic fibers, right?

It depends, the cheaper stuff is. You can test a small patch of it by burning it (carefully). If it melts, it's synthetic, if it ashes, it's wool.

Thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it.

Ultra suede would work just as well as microfiber & can be found in fabric stores. I use this material to clean my flute as well because it doesn't scratch, though I use microfiber on my filters, lenses, etc.

I'll go look for some ultra suede at the fabric store. thanks!

i would use either a brushed cotton flannel or an uber soft mesh netting. quality is important, so don't skimp. as for a hard case... i would use a found plastic or metal box from a garage sale or thrift store, line it and/or make dividers with foam, then put a soft lining on top of that.

sound like a good idea, i'll have to try it!
