Shrinky Dinks Rock!

9:52 pm - 07/21/2003
So... I was playing with Shrinky dink plastic, just to test and experiment before I try making something for hair pins. And I made this bracelet! I had such fun and it turned out so easy...

I used a circle a little larger than a spool of thread, then punched holes to either side with a regular hole punch. I cut out the shape, leaving some edge around the holes and drew various shapes - I sorta tried to follow a 'tattoo' type theme. The flash sorta distorted some of the pictures, but there's a butterfly, lips, a shamrock, the sun, a star, heart and a jester hat. :o) Used jump rings to connect them and a spring clasp at the end. Verra easy - worked on and off all afternoon as I read my homework.

I actually made too many little charm things - there are 7 here, and it's about 6.75" long - just right for my wrist.

Hope you enjoy! :o)

Thank you! :o) I had a good time making it. It seems I can't have enough interesting bangly crafty bracelets anymore.

Thanks bunches! I actually got -this- idea from the Klutz website (I don't have the book, but they've got some examples on the Shrinky Dink book page) It's got an awesome bracelet made the same way, but with flowers and things - I'm just not that artistically talented with coloured pencils. :o) You should check it out!

That's EXTREMELY cute. You could totally personalize those and give them as gifts.

I agree! Especially now that Shrinky Dinks makes sheets you can feed through an ink jet (mine are unfortunately not like that)

But you could make message bracelets, or photo bracelets, yadda yadda.

Thanks for the kind words! :O)

thats pretty! the shamrock and the lips look sparkly from here. is that the camera?
[info]bubbledragon 21st-Jul-2003 10:25 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that's the camera's flash reflecting... though I imagine you could spread some glitter nail polish across it for a sparkly effect.

I can't believe I forgot about Shrinky Dinks! I am so going out to buy some tommorow.

The bracelet is great!

This is great! I got 10 sheets for $4 or $5 at Michaels! There's different colours, too... in case you didn't want clear - but I like to see the picture from both sides. :o)

I just forgot how nerve wracking it is to watch for a few seconds, because it -always- looks like it's going to curl up and stick to itself, and generally be an icky mess... but every time it just flattens out on its own, like magic. Lol.

Today at a boookstore I saw necklaces made from a shirnky dink attached to a ribbon. The designs were beautiful, but not beautiful enough for me to buy it for 7 dollars. What you've done, on the other hand, is fantastic. You should definately try selling these.

I would try that, but I'd be afraid of running out of things to draw! *snickers* Thank you so much for the compliment, I really appreciate them. :o)

Very cute! I did a bunch of shrinkydink charms with a kind of Vegas/rockabilly type theme, but I never made anything out of them (playing cards, dice, flaming heart, eight ball, etc.) They came out really nifty, I guess I ought to dig 'em up. =)

Oh, cute theme! I might have to steal that - I also have a few bottle caps laying around that I embedded playing card faces into with resin, and those would make neat embellishments on a necklace. :o)
