I'm thinking of silk-dying some eggs, but I'm not sure what to do with them; presumably they're perishable, but apparently not edible! I'm also not sure how well it will work with brown eggs; it's hard to get white ones here! Has anyone tried this?

I have heard of this technique but never tried it. I can tell you that eventually the egg inside does dry up and rattle - we did pysanky in elementary school and as long as you are very careful not to break the egg, it will last a long time. I'm turning 40 in October and still have my egg ;-)

Thanks! Were they raw or cooked eggs (if you remember!)?

It was a raw egg. The trick was to keep the egg from getting cracked over the years, which as you can imagine with children is hard to do :D
