Hello, everyone! This is my first post, although I've been watching for a while. I work in a used book store, and while great, it doesn't pay that much. So I made some bookmarks to try and raise a little extra money.

There are two other designs not shown: a suspension bridge and an art nouveau bird. They're printed on pages of old books we were going to throw away. (I used a dictionary for the flower and bird, Shakespeare's history plays and sonnets for the globe, and Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales for the seahorse and bridge. The seahorse is on The Little Mermaid.) I then laminated them by hand. I sold my first one today! It's the first thing I've ever sold that I made! I'm super proud. If they take off, I hope to expand to other bookstores in the area and maybe to etsy. (Or maybe I'm just getting ahead of myself!)

What do you think? Have any suggestions for other designs? I have a hard time finding images that aren't coded as feminine, so masculine/gender neutral suggestions would be welcome.

I think those are really pretty! Maybe some more animals? A skyscraper? Quotes from popular authors?

Thank you! I really like the idea of author quotes. I may use that!

These are lovely. I've seen this kind of project before and I would like to try making one. How did you put the designs (flower, seahorse, etc.) on the pages?

Thanks!

I literally just printed them using a printer. I edited the pictures through a free photo app on Chrome, then inserted them into Open Office and fiddled with the page size and layout until I was happy with how it printed. I sliced them out with an Xacto knife and loaded them into the printer. Easy, peasy!

Ah, so that's how! Thanks for sharing! :D

How about anatomy illustrations? A heart would be neat for something poetry based. Pencil/other drawing/painting implements?

Naval images would be good as well - ship, anchor, sextant, etc. Just ships alone would give you plenty of images. Same for tools as you could use tools from any profession.

There are all sorts of trees and vines that aren't considered feminine that you could use as well. Famous buildings would also give you lots of images to choose from.

These are fantastic!

Other design ideas: Sports equipment, music notation, custom initials or dates, animals, nature (trees, flowers, etc), words from the page you printed on, inspirational quotes, definition of words like fantastic, fiction, poetry, etc.

Very cute! Robots would be adorable too. And rocket ships, stuff of that sort.

I think those are adorable! If I saw one of those in a shop, I'd totally buy it. One design idea that you might consider is letters of the alphabet in cool fonts. Maybe to go along with the pictures. Like an "s" for seahorse, "B" for bridge, and so on. People love personalized things and I bet someone would be more inclined to buy one if it had the first letter of their name on it! Good luck. :)
