Craftgrrl FB page

11:47 am - 07/20/2012
I don't know if anyone has noticed but the craftgrrl fb page is gone.

Sometime yesterday facebook decided that that the name I use on FB wasn't real (when in fact it's my actual legal name) and without warning disabled my account. When they did that it took the Cg page with it. They've demanded a pic of my id which I sent them for sake of the Cg page - I'm personally done with FB. So now I wait for them to decide I'm real and reinstate the Cg page.

Finally out of facebook jail! for now at least the emails they've sent me conflict but hey! my login works.

Unbelievable!

Ugh, so sorry to hear. But thanks for persevering!
momsalive1 20th-Jul-2012 05:05 pm (UTC)
They are demanding you send them a copy of photo ID?!?!? They have TMI on people already.
ilea 20th-Jul-2012 05:15 pm (UTC)
yep. Just another reason to like livejournal... they don't care if I'm using my real name or a fake one and they don't have a like button on every site tracking my moves.

I recently left FB - and have never been happier!
ilea 20th-Jul-2012 07:05 pm (UTC)
well that's my plan.. I'll get my FB account back just for the Cg page and move my social presence elsewhere.

FB is beyond Big Brother. Its scary the stuff they want from you and the stuff they assume they can share (if you don't get in there and tell them not to) :(

Congrats on having an unbelievable name though \o/

The heck?

*blinks double blinks*

That's just plain terrible.

This has happened to a lot of people including a weatherman who's site was relied on by many for weather warnings. They covered it on This Week in Google a few weeks ago.

Sorry it happened to you.

Maybe time for Google+ instead? If you really want a social media presence for Cg, that is.
askygoneonfire 20th-Jul-2012 10:22 pm (UTC)
Google+ were, last I heard (my info could be out of date), demanding real names only too.

If it helps, OP, you're in good company, Salman Rushdie had his FB account suspended too!

I heard that too.

We're going to need to see your long form birth certificate. And 10-12 years of tax returns.
reddest 20th-Jul-2012 06:26 pm (UTC)
And your SS# with your most current bank statements.
So inappropriate fb....but how surprised are we really?
nicolettenexxt 20th-Jul-2012 06:23 pm (UTC)
There's so many people on there with names that I just know can't be real and they're allowed to use them. That really sucks that they disabled your account for such a stupid reason. :(
night_sky99 20th-Jul-2012 07:11 pm (UTC)
I had my middle name as Iwannaseethemorgue for half a year and nothing happened. I wonder why they seem to pick on some and not all.
nicolettenexxt 20th-Jul-2012 08:10 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I see lots of names like that on there. I guess it's random, doesn't seem very fair though.
preter_natural 20th-Jul-2012 06:46 pm (UTC)
What the hell? I've seen people use names like "Who FuckinCares" and get left alone. And, uh, excuse me, not everyone wants their legal name on the internet? Facebook is getting a) mighty nosy and b) rather Big Brotherish. Ugh.
ilea 20th-Jul-2012 07:07 pm (UTC)
I know! it's a thing down here to have whodat or geauxsaints as a name and I've seen bunches of people use it without being bothered but ilea jones? Oh no thats fake!
askygoneonfire 20th-Jul-2012 10:24 pm (UTC)
My understanding is that facebook track and suspend based on user reports. A friend of mine had an ex-friend with a grudge report her for having spam/fake name and she was suspended (it was her middle name and surname, in no way something that an automated sweep or casual glance would pick up)

I only kept my FB page around so I could like other pages in order to get extra entries in giveaways (hey, I like trying to win free fabric!).

Facebook is more annoying (on multiple levels) than it's worth.
smeddley 20th-Jul-2012 07:40 pm (UTC)
Huh, and yet the fake fb page I set up to play games/use apps I didn't want on my real page is fine... But then, I'm not sure they're bright enough to catch on to "Susan Doughnim" (call me Sue...) ~.^
888mph 20th-Jul-2012 10:15 pm (UTC)
I have TWO fake FB accounts for games with ridiculous names for 2 years now and nothing ever happened to them!
hyperallergina 24th-Jul-2012 11:22 pm (UTC)
I thought I was the only one! I have a few fake accounts on there too!

OMG! :((((

I'm not on facebook, have never been, and incidents like this make me adamant not to go. Also, lj's pretty cosy despite the server issues. I'm a creature of habit. 8B

I left facebook a couple of years ago because of their lack of privacy. Every now and again I'm tempted to go back, just to keep track of some things and be able to 'like' various stores or get discounts and such that they have there and only there. Then something like this comes along and I'm reminded just why I don't want to have an FB account.

On a slightly different note, though, you would be surprised how often FB is tracking what you do even when you DON"T have an account with them. A friend alerted me to a plug-in for FireFox that blocks all of the little apps that track where you go and tells you what it's blocking. Just looking at this one page, I have 12 different apps tracking what I do. Two of which are from FB (and a different two from Google, to give full disclosure.)
hyperallergina 24th-Jul-2012 11:26 pm (UTC)
Is it called Ghostery?
mycha_miska 25th-Jul-2012 12:58 am (UTC)
Yes, it is actually =)
