Hi girls!
A crafty dilemma is going on here and I count on your good suggestions: I've these wood beads and I'd like to make a necklace. I made few tries but I think it's missing something, I just can't put m hand on it.. mmm. These are the first attempts:

I would recommend adding different-sized beads and especially different-medium beads such as glass, shell or metal.

What's off, I think, is that your bead holes are too big for the chain. The holes make the beads look like they're flat on the sides and not round. Try using a wide ribbon instead and knot it like a pearl necklace.

I actually like your 4th attempt. Maybe you can add interest by stringing two or more strands of (fine-sized) chain through the beads instead of ribbon.

I like the one with the half-painted beads. I've been meaning to make that one! I agree with the other comment that perhaps your necklace could benefit from a ribbon or perhaps suede cord. I saw another where the beads went through a chain, and the chain ended after the beads were strung on, and the chain transitioned to ribbon. It was super cute!

I really like the necklace with the black ribbon and bow. Perhaps try something like that?

One thing that instantly springs to my attention is that the images you have for inspiration which have multiple colours have alternating colours rather than colours lumped together. Even the necklace with the half painted beads gives the illusion of alternating colours even though the beads were originally the same colours.

Adding in spacers or sparkly beads would add more flair to the necklace. Just be careful to balance the look so it stays with an elegant statement rather than looking like (sorry to say this) a child's project.

As for what you use to string the necklace together, something with a bit more detail like a chain would work, especially if you stay with just the wooden beads. What you are currently using isn't bad in my opinion but you might want to see how well the beads fit on it and, if necessary, either switch to something thicker or else twist the cord you're using to make it thicker and more intricate looking.

And remember, all comments are the opinions of the posters and may not reflect your artistic vision. Which is fine, so don't think that you have to do what anyone suggests. :)

Although I like what you have started, I just get the feeling that you have clashing genres here. That particular chain gives the effect of attempting the dress up casual beads. Maybe a colored or more chunky looking chain would work. Also, ribbon or one of the other materials mentioned in comments might work with these beads.
Securing the beads will give it a finished look, as well. You could add knots, spacer beads or secure them together.
I don't think that the beads are the problem, just be sure to be consistent with what you pair them with.
Good luck! Great start :)
