Help finding craft stores

11:22 am - 05/14/2012
Hi guys,

It looks like I'm going to New York soon (yay!!) and I really want to find some great craft/fabric shops, so I'm hoping that you can help! I've started researching online but I've yet to find anywhere massive and amazing (and I'm sure there MUST be places in the US). I'm from Ireland and all our supplies are crazy expensive so I'm really looking for massive department stores of craft supplies (please tell me they exist!). I'm mainly into quilting and scrapbooking but anything would be appreciated!

Thank you so so much in advance!

If you want just all-around craft supply goodness, find a JoAnn's (they also have fabric. And the JoAnn's Superstores I've been to had great quilt fabrics!). Or Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or A.C. Moore.

Thank you! This is exactly what I'm looking for! I just googled these names and amazing doesn't even begin to describe it!

if you quilt, go to Purl Soho, you may not end up buying anything but it's definitely a great place to drool. Also, go down to the Fashion district, the side streets are full of these specialty fabric and accessories, such as beads, lace and that type of stuff. Of course, Mood fabric, you may get lost in there, but can't go wrong in there. If you scrap book, there's a store called the Ink Pad down in W. Village. Nice owner! Have a fun time!

I have always heard amazing things about the Tinsel Trading Company. I've not ever been personally but a friend brought me back a bag of goodies from there and wow!
Tons of vintage ribbons trims and buttons. They have a website...
Have FUN!!!!

I'm going to have to explore this website further! Not sure if they shop here but fingers crossed that I may not even have to wait!

If you think you might be going to JoAnn's, you might want to get on their email list first to get coupons.

Same for AC Moore, Hobby Lobby and Michaels.

I looked at the store locators, and you won't find these in the city (if you are going to NYC) but I think you can shop all of them on-line.

Sadly most of them won't send to Ireland :( I'd heard of joanns and I really wanted to go but it looks very far out! I think I found a Michaels in the city though but not sure.

The Michael's in Manhattan is located in the Upper West Side; there are two other locations in Queens, which is another borough of NYC, but it may take you a bit of time getting back from the stores to where you'll probably be staying in Manhattan.

Oh, found it and added it to our googlemap of places to go!! Thank you! I'm only getting a hang of what the "city centre" area is now!
