okay after reading that horrible article where our love for crafting has been warped into some sort of reaction to life after 9/11/01, I decided to work on a letter to send to the columnist not in the know at Charlotte.com.
But before I complete my letter, I just want to hear from all you crafty fearless chicas (and chicos) out there who hold their crochet hooks, and knitting needles, glue guns and exacto knives proudly and not in terror:
Why do you craft?
I craft because it keeps my creative brain juices flowing. BEcause it relaxes me. Because crocheting is a craft that has been passed down from my great-grandma to my grandma to my mama and to me. I craft because a handmade modge podge box with homemade stationary tells them you really care. I craft because I am imaginative. I craft because I love a good challenge. I craft because it makes me happy. i craft because I can.

I don't think the author considered the fact that maybe some of us (aka, me) stay at home and craft because we don't want to be around all the patriotic idiots.
I craft because it makes me feel useful. For 4 dollars I can knit the exact same scarf I saw at the Gap that cost 20. I can make a burberry skirt for 7 dollars instead of 80. I am a very visual person, and I don't want to to look at stuff that doesn't excite my brain. I also love to make things for other people, it's much more rewarding and personal.
but yeah. the thing that i also hated about the article is the whole sprts thing- athletes and crafters can be housed in the same body! before i got ill i swam 7 days a week for hours on end. so pooh to her for thinking that whole stupid thing.
