I'm sitting here staring at a jar of bath salts. The huge and chunky bath salts that are way too expensive to get regularly. I was wondering if anyone had any clue how to perhaps "infuse" plain chunks of salt with some type of smell?

This is totally unhelpful, but I'm pretty sure that people make their own bath salts a lot and you may be able to find recipes if you look online . . .

I put epsome salt in a bowl, mixed a small amount of olive oil and peppermint oil (can be done with any other oil -- lavendar, etc) and some fresh dried peppermint...swirled it around a bit and had some beautiful bath salts. The oil just makes the dried herbs and scent stick to the salt...it shouldn't be wet, though if you want an oil-salt scrub, just add tons more olive oil.

Forgive me if this seems glaringly obvious and is not what you were asking, but I always make my bath salts with sea salt and essential oils. Just as good as storebought, and you can make like 25 pounds for about $20. (If you wanted 25 lbs of one scent.)

I use essential oils and herbs. If you use essential oils make sure to be careful using ones that are skin irritants (clove, sage, cinnamon, etc) because they could give you a rash. When I use herbs to make bath salts I put the salts in a small muslin bag (you can get them at health food stores) so the herbs don't get all over the tub. If you use just herbs to scent the salts they usually have a much milder smell than the essential oils. I hope this helped.

Here you go; choose your favorite!

I'm pretty sure my aunt used to make some by spritzing her perfume on some Epsom salts and maybe adding a tiny bit of food coloring to make it pretty. I know she put them in empty Veryfine juice bottles when she gave them as gifts (back when Veryfine juices still came in glass bottles. *grin*). So it might be as simple as that. You can get Epsom salts at any drugstore, though I can't remember which aisle it's usually in.

Anyway, culled from google by doing a search for "bath salt recipe":
